What if I miss peak bloom?
You still have options. Blossoms at higher elevations like Kawaguchiko and in northern cities open later than Tokyo. Late-blooming varieties and petal-covered rivers after peak are beautiful in their own right, and every stop on this route is worth visiting with or without sakura.
How far in advance should I book hotels?
Six months ahead is a safe target for cherry blossom season, and popular Kyoto hotels can sell out even earlier. Prices are the highest of the year, so booking rooms with free cancellation as early as possible is the standard play.
How bad are the crowds during sakura season?
The famous spots are genuinely packed, especially on weekends. This itinerary schedules the biggest names in the early morning and keeps evenings for illuminated blossoms, which spreads the crowds. Weekday visits make a noticeable difference.
